Covering the surface area of 2,500m², it provides accommodation and all amenities for a total of 80 children and young adults with disabilities. The construction of the centre commenced in September 2011 and was completed only 10 months later, and the keys were ceremonially handed to then-mayor of Belgrade at the end of June.
The design team of our company, in collaboration with Delta Foundation and the representatives of centre for accommodation and day care of children and youth with disabilities developed the optimal scheme that would fulfil absolutely every need of its prospective users, and it is important to mention the fact that during its construction the most modern standards and foreign experience in this segment were applied.
The decision to build and donate “Sunce” precisely for the purpose of accommodation and stay for children and youth was made on the basis of extensive research and an in-depth analysis of social security institutions. It had been assessed that, although there was a large number of vulnerable social groups in Serbia, the biggest priority at the moment of rendering the decision on construction were young people with disabilities, who faced huge problems when it came to capacities for accommodation and day care.
“Sunce” is a multi-purpose facility, on the one hand, it serves as a place that cares for children and youth with disabilities, helps them develop their skills and trains them to participate in and become equal members of society they live in. On the other hand, such facilities facilitate parents’ lives to a great extent, helping them with everyday care of their children.
The spacious yard has exercising equipment installed, and, in collaboration with Delta Agrar, an apple and cherry orchard has been planted, as well as beds with medicinal herbs.
